Fast multipole accelerated boundary element methods for room acoustics

چکیده

The direct and indirect boundary element methods, accelerated via the fast multipole method, are applied to numerical simulation of room acoustics for large rooms volume $\sim 150$ $m^{3}$ frequencies up 5 kHz on a workstation. As parameter $kD$ (wavenumber times diameter) is large, stabilization previously developed FMM algorithms required accuracy. A scheme one key contribution this paper. computations validated using well-known image source solutions shoebox shaped rooms. Computations L-shaped performed illustrate ability capture diffractions. model in-room baffles, openings (doors/windows) also demonstrated. largest case has $kD>1100$ with discretization size 6 million elements. performance different integral formulations was compared, their rates convergence preconditioned flexible GMRES were found be substantially different. These promising results suggest path efficient simulations high methods.

Fast Boundary Element Methods in Acoustics

Wave propagation problems play an important role, not only in the scientific community, but also in industry. Think of acoustic scattering, sound radiation and other related problems. A common feature of these problems is the large or even infinite extension of the acoustic domain compared to the rather limited extension of the surface of the embedded scatterer. The appropriateness of solving s...

Fast Multipole Accelerated Boundary Element Methods for the 3D Helmholtz Equation

Abstract The development of a fast multipole method accelerated iterative solution of the boundary element equations for large problems involving hundreds of thousands elements for the Helmholtz equations in 3D is described. The BEM requires several approximate computations (numerical quadrature, approximations of the boundary shapes using elements) and the convergence criterion for iterative c...

Recent advances on the fast multipole accelerated boundary element method for 3D time-harmonic elastodynamics

This article is mainly devoted to a review on fast BEMs for elastodynamics, with particular attention on time-harmonic fast multipole methods (FMMs). It also includes original results that complete a very recent study on the FMM for elastodynamic problems in semi-infinite media. The main concepts underlying fast elastodynamic BEMs and the kernel-dependent elastodynamic FM-BEM based on the diago...

A broadband fast multipole accelerated boundary element method for the three dimensional Helmholtz equation.

The development of a fast multipole method (FMM) accelerated iterative solution of the boundary element method (BEM) for the Helmholtz equations in three dimensions is described. The FMM for the Helmholtz equation is significantly different for problems with low and high kD (where k is the wavenumber and D the domain size), and for large problems the method must be switched between levels of th...
